Satellite systems can positively complement terrestrial networks in the landscape of the upcoming 5G, on a wide set of key and market-driven use-cases. The lecture will provide a brief overview of 5G standards, aiming to present possible integration of terrestrial and satellite systems in the frame of Direct Access for IoT and Multi-Access/hybrid-backhauling approaches, as defined in the latest 3GPP specifications. During the lecture the outcomes and the operational testbeds defined within ongoing European Projects in this subject will be presented.
