Technical Challenges and Market Opportunities in Smart Meter Design

In this talk the technological evolution of smart energy meters will be presented. After a short historical perspective, the needs of modern Smart Grids, in terms of monitoring devices will be assessed. Moreover the requirements of new Smart Meters, in terms of technological platform will be addressed together with the improvement and availability of low cost yet powerful communication network interfaces.
